- To search a document:
- <Put the insertion point where you want to start searching.
- 'Choose Find/Change from the Edit menu.
- ?From the Find pop-up menu, choose the item you want to locate.
- WIf the item in the Find pop-up menu has a colon (:) after it, you need to provide more J
- information in the text box.
- QTo change the text FrameMaker finds, choose the replacement item from the Change
- Bpop-up menu and type the replacement text in the Change text box.

- Searching for a character format
- 3To search for text in a specific character format:
- QClick in text that has the same or a similar format to the one you want to find.
- 'Choose Find/Change from the Edit menu.
- 3Choose Character Format from the Find pop-up menu.
- TThe Find Character Format dialog box appears, showing the last character format you
- Wsearched for. To display the settings of the current selection, press Command-Shift-V.
- "Change the settings as you want.
- TTo have FrameMaker ignore a setting, turn a check box gray, choose As Is from a pop-
- ,up menu, or delete the text in a text box.
- 8To change all settings to As Is, press Command-Shift-X.
- Click OK.
- Click Find to begin the search.
- Searching for special characters
- QYou can find and change special formatting and nonprinting characters. Type the
- Ucharacters shown below in the Find and Change text boxes in the Find/Change window.

- Searching with wildcard characters
- VYou can use wildcard characters to create sophisticated search patterns. For example,
- \you can find a word at the beginning of a line that starts with
- (search for ^z). To use
- Va wildcard, turn on Use Wildcards and type a wildcard character in the Find text box.
- Type this:
- To search for:
- Zero or more characters, excluding spaces and punctuation
- One or more spaces and punctuation characters that end a word
- Any single character, excluding spaces and punctuation
- The start of a line
- The end of a line
- /[ab]
- Any one of the characters in the brackets
- ([^ab]
- Any character not in the brackets
- +[a-b]
- Any one character in a range
- \other
- Other (for example, \* searches for an asterisk)
